Well howdy partner! Zynga has released its newest Facebook game, FrontierVille. Here at SGH we want to give you a quick FrontierVille Help Guide so that you can get started on the right track. In this game you are a pioneer that has headed out west and you get to start your very own frontier town. You'll get to decorate your town, build cabins, grow crops and even start a family. But watch out! The frontier is a wild place with a lot of wilderness and hardships to contend with!
This game has a lot of features loaded into it and you will be familiar with most of them. First you have to design your character. You get to pick all of the usual things, like how you look and of course your outfits, which are western themed of course. Then you get to start working on your FrontierVille.
Like most games, everything you do requires energy and you only have a limited amount, so you need to use it wisely. It also makes for slow going early on but your energy levels will grow as you gain levels. There are also items you can buy that will give you energy, much like the system used in Treasure Isle. At the beginning of the game you will be helped by Frontier Jack, who'll show you the basics but that's about it.
There is a bit more to collect here then in some of the other games. Of course you need coins to buy things at the market but you also need wood to build buildings, food for more energy and horseshoes, which are the FrontierVille currency that you earn or buy from Zynga.
You have crops that you can harvest that will give you food and coins. Chopping down trees will give you wood and coins and feeding your animals gives you coins and sometimes food too. You need to clear land to build your cabin and sometimes when you are clearing land, especially moving rocks, you will encounter things like snakes, which you must clobber until they are dead. This earns you coins, food and experience.
There's a lot to and I'll walk you through a few of those things:
Farming and Ranching: You will have crops to harvest and plant, similar to FarmVille. You buy them at the market and then pick a spot to plant them. There's no plowing required, just pick your crop and plant it, no energy needed. Harvesting the crops requires energy though, so make sure you have enough energy to harvest everything you plant or those crops may wither away. You can also plant trees to harvest and buy animals that you will tend to and 'harvest as well and they can be harvested over and over, so they are a good investment once you have the coins to purchase them.
Wild Animals of the West: There are animals in the wild west that don't like the idea of settlers. Watch out for hem as if they are near your crops or animals it will cost you more energy to harvest them. So, when you see them you need to clobber them to scare them away!
Frontier Neighbors: Like other Facebook games, neighbors play an important part. You will need a certain number of them to complete some tasks and of course they can send you gifts to help you on your way. You can also help them to gain experience and items, without using energy. This is important when you are first starting out and don't have a lot of energy. You also get hearts when you help your neighbor, which increases your reputation which gives your neighbors a bonus when they hire you and you'll get more coins too!
Those are the main areas of the game, but there are also a few more. FrontierVille has collections that can be completed to gain more energy and receive free items. You also have a wish list where you can request specific gifts from your FrontierVille neighbors.
There are specific goals for you to complete and the first one is called 'Clear The Land'. You need to clear 3 grass, which takes one energy each and gives you one experience and one coin. You also need to chop down two trees, which takes a certain number of chops depending on the size of the tree. Each chops takes one energy and then there is a stump to remove at the end, which also takes one energy to remove. You gain the same amount of wood and coins as the number of chops.
The first building you need is a cabin, which can be purchased at the market. Once it is completed you can start your family. You get a wife or husband and will eventually get to have children.
All I can say is that so far the game seems great. It looks good, has a familiar, yet new feel to it and has been a lot of fun so far. I know I haven't covered everything, but this will get you started. Please leave some comments below and let us know what you think of FrontierVille

I have 9 sets of tools in my storage drawer and they are just sitting there with no way to get to them and no directions to use them. how do I get them for use on my General store. I already used all of my horseshoes to buy tools to finish my cabin.. and what is the cloth and boards for that are sitting in there also.. no explantions for these things.. thank you eyesofgreen11@yahoo.com
eyesofgreen, I don't know what the tools, cloth and boards are for. But, I am thinking that they will be needed for future quests. My best advice based on how the game has unfolded so far, is not to make things until they are needed. Keep the raw material and wait until you need something before making it. This will help in the future as you won't have used your raw materials for something that wasn't needed.
Does anyone know how you can get another thorny bush to grow on your land? I cleared all of them away or my neighbors did and now my dang kid needs to clear one more before i can accomplish that goal and i have none LOL!
Not sure how to get one to grow. I ran into the same issue with purple flowers for one of the goals and had to wait for wild flowers to grow back. Hopefully some thorns will grow for you soon!!

Aww, I need the thorns too. I need THREE of them! :( I think there should be thorn that you can plant, just like the trees. Not that anyone would want to plant thorns irl, but .. yea...
Please do tell if you see thorns growing. That would make me stop wondering if I ever will complete that goal.
It's a fun game. You will get plenty of energy as you level up. I am at level 19 and have 45 energy. I cleared my whole plot too early, and now I need thorn bushes. Part of the description says they grow deep in the forest, so I have replanted a bunch of trees in one of the corners of my land. Now I just need my neighbors to wuit cutting them down before they can grow into big trees.
I finished my cabin before the "finish the cabin" quest came up, how am I suppose to finish the quest now?

to those of you that have completed building before they are a quest will need to start another one..I did the same thing..as far a thorns re-growing..its been 4 days and not a thorn in site. I was one of the peeps to clear my land like I thought we were suppose to do. So, seems I am stuck on that kid challenge.
Same for me, 4 days waiting for thorns to grow. so I just went and looked up future quests and am Happy I stopped turning in Collections a while back :) Thorns will grow back eventually , I planted a bunch of trees and if I see a neighbor heading over to chop one down, i close the game fast .. seems to work at keeping them from pulling out the ax.
if you see a neighbor heading somewhere u dont want themn to be hit the red x bottom right and it will stop them right away

To use the tools in your inventory for your general store, they must be the individual tools, not the tool sets that you get when your neighbors help you. The sets are for quests later on in the game. not sure if that's what you meant, but I hope it helps.

Err... You don't have to accept when a neighbor shows up and want to cut down your trees! You just click the neighbor and choose "dismiss". Easy as pie! The neighbor still got their bonuses, and you have your trees where you left them.
Um EPIC FAIL after today's "Upgrade" go read the Zynga forums. They really messed up this time when they jacked up the cost of energy.

For those of you asking about neighbors not showing up, could it be because you have sent them invites and they have not yet accepted them? Click on you neighbors link from the game screen and see if it shows the people you think are missing as pending neighbor request or actual neighbors. If actual neighbors are missing then something is strange. If they are still pending then send them a reminder! Have fun!

You only have 2 options. Use horseshoes to do it or get more neighbors. Feel free to paste a link to your profile if you want other people to become your friend and then neighbor.
My husband showed up as a neighbor for about 1/2 an hour and then when I went back to the game, he is no longer showing in the neighbor bar. When I go to Neighbors at the top, it shows I have quite a few neighbors but they aren't in the neighbor bar either. I have tried reloading the game, logging out of Facebook and going to the game again and - still no neighbors showing up. I'm about ready to say "forget playing this game."

My friend has accepted me as a neighbour and shows as accepted (not pending) on the neighbours tab at the top of the game. However she still does not show in the boxes below the game, yet I show on her computer! She can visit my homestead and help out, but I cannot visit hers! Good game but this rubbish is making me want to chuck the towel (or bear) in.

i took me about a week for my friends to show up. be patient, some get them faster than others for some reason, but they will get there.
One more thing, if i gift my nails, hammer etc, to friends, wont i need those to build my own buildings? where the heck do they come from if we are giving them away? I mean, i have like 6 nails i'd like to give out, but then when i need nails to build my coops wouldnt have been wiser to hoard my nails. im confused!

The tool sets are used for building a crib once you get a barn. Thorns can be purchased from the market but only with horseshoes. Planks are made in the wagon and are used in the barn to build a crib.

"please be patient" is crap. This "missing neighbor" problem is something relatively new that has shown up across all of their platforms, according to their forum moderators.
They made some sort of overall database change and it has zarked up all of their games. This has been going on for over two weeks now and it's just not acceptable. The cash flow these people get from these games is incredible; the least they can do is put every software developer they have on OVERTIME to fix it.
And NOT release any "new" games until they fix the ones they have.
My game won't let me post a tool bonus to neighbours I have visited nor announce when I have clobbered groundhogs or foxes or bears - or moved up a level - unless I leave it alone for about ten minutes - is it my internet settings or is it Zynga? Others seem to post messages to my feed easily enough and it does work once every twenty or so times. Any boffins know why?

Hey guys! I'm a level 11 and I just wanted to say, for those of you wondering how to use your tools for buildings,once you buy them with horseshoes or accept them as gifts from your friends you don't need to do anything else, just click on the building that you want to use them on and it will show you how many more you need. You don't actually need to take them from your inventory. Also, thorns can be purchased by horseshoes in the market, if your having a problem growing them. If you want to work ahead and start building other buildings go ahead but don't finish them until you get a mission to complete them, otherwise you will have to re-build them! For those of you who asked where do the supplies come from if you have to gift them from your own inventory, you don't. Click on the "Free Gifts" tab at the top of the playing screen and there will be two building material gifts available for you to give away, the choices change frequently.

If there is a neighbor on your land wanting to work, hover over her with pointer and it will highlight what she is going to do.You can either hire her or decline.
The red ribbon is used to make "fancy" clothes, that you make at the store. But you have to make regular clothes in the cabin first.
For the last couple of days I can't send gifts and the bottom bit of neighbours is cut off so don't see the last row when you click on the neighbour what is wrong?

For the people missing thorns - I don't think they grow back but you have to use 8 horseshoes to buy some from the 'special' tab of the market.

Anyone that has completed the cabin before the quest like I did, I have found a way to complete it.
Click your cabin and customize it and change the way it looks. Doesnt cost anything and can be changed back so no worries. Then click the green accept button then bam should have completed quest.
Clear out the upper corner of your land and thorns will grow back.

just a question if you cut into a smaller tree once what happens if you leave it? will it grow bigger and the one chop will be lost or will it be stunted or grow bigger and still have the one chop showing?

thorns grow in the upper right hand corner clear everything out no trees no fences nothing. they will grow back. for cactus. clear out the lower left corner.the cloth is for making clothes for a wedding the tools are for making a crib.. ect... stock up on as much as you can.. and if you havent gotten that far in the game and still have thorns... dont clear them

ribbon is used for making cloths and also for the crib you have to make and is also used for the school house quest and also for the teacher.
as for the experiance points they are all diffrent it is worked out with how many quest you pass and there is no order in which people get these quests.
How do I eat 400 food? I can never seem to conquer this quest. My progress always changes too. One day it will say 4/400. After I harvest some stuff it goes up. But then later the same day it will be way back down again. It has been as high as 135/400 and as low as 1/400.
I had the thorn problem and fixed it after a few weeks of tryign different stuff. On the upper left section of your stead ( top of the diamond) make sure it is clear. Plant a few scattered pine trees but leave it clear. They will 100% grow. I couldnt get them to stop until I put stuff back in that area.

For the poster who asked about the crib being built before the quest came up, yes, you will need to rebuild the crib.
For everyone on this game, please, DO NOT BUILD ANYTHING before the "goals" ask you to, or you will have to start over.
For the posters asking about the thorns they cleared, the best way to get them back is to totally clear the top right corner of your land, give it a day or so and they will start growing back, sometimes 2-3 at a time. You will need to totally clear a good sized section of that top right corner though. You can buy thorns for 8 horseshoes, but that takes more time and I have seen several postings that it didn't help.
On a final note, DO NOT EVER TRADE IN YOUR COLLECTIONS. Sorry to "shout" but this is so important. As you level higher and get more quests, or goals, to do, you will need almost 1 various item in your collection, and once you get to that particular goal, it seems impossible to get the item when you are on the goal.

Has anyone else had their kid disappear? I can't seem to find the little guy. I've chopped down trees and moved everything that can move. Any ideas on how to find him?
to find your kid go into your inventory box and click on the photo album, open up the page where your kid is and select them they will then be highlighted in the game and you can walk them to where you can see them. If you don't give them a chore in the open before you close your game
they will be back in hiding again the next time you open up the game.

Having trouble the screen won't display the whole page of the game I can't access the goals or go back home when visiting neighbors and if I bring up the market I can't close it because the icon is outside the field of the screen - really annoying does anybody have any ideas? I downloaded the latest flash player and my Java script is enabled what is wrong?
To find missing friends scroll left in your friend bar. They are past a few "invite friends" boxes.
To find your child or spouse you can also go to your family album, customize something on the missing child or spouse and click play. they walk right back to where you can see them.
You CAN encourage thorns to grow back if you plant a couple of trees close together(5 or 6). Anywhere there's a "thicket" of trees? That's where thorns like to grow. You will have to grow enough to form a "forest", of sorts. But don't plant them TOO close together or you won't be able to see the thorns when they come up. It will take a while, but they will come back. It puts more trees on your land that you might eventuallly have to cut down, but it IS one way of getting thorns back. Sometimes they come back randomly. Also, it would do you well to purchase a "Keep Off" sign to discourage your neighbors from coming in and cutting down anything you don't want cut, or as stated in an above post, if you see a neighbor headed towards something you wanna keep, just click the red "x" button and it stops them in their tracks. I also purchased a dinner bell so that when I visit my farm, I ring the dinner bell first thing and it pulls everybody off of your farm and to the dinner bell so you can see if anyone's visiting you and can see what they intend to do by hovering your mouse over their character.

Does anyone know why i cannot get into my inventory, trade in collections sell animals to finish quests or hire neighbours. i have been having this trouble since beginning of july, im also unable to use free gifts. i have been in touch with zynga 3 weeks ago who said they were working on clearing up the glitch but still to no avail. i have tried emailing them since then but low and behold they wont let me submit my email. does anyone know what i can do about it please.

please help. I visit 25 neighbors and get my child on frontierville and then i go back home and within minutes it says lost internet connection and "missing child token". So i refresh, my child is gone, and it says i need to visit 25 neighbors on my mission. When i do that it happens again.

I am at a stand still, needing many materials, have neighbors many not sending help and also now needing to chops 20 trees and remove a rock(which no rocks or thorns) also have less then 10 tree to chop. I am in the process of expanding my territory. Also have one quest(coral) needing 1000 wood and one needing 500 wood(for the April fools #1)

Frontierville is an outrageous game. I have 4 buildings and need 199 items! Does a Saloon need 15 swinging door? Ridiculous! I will quit this game.
well i loved playing this game but since they put the livestock pen in i havent been able to get the big barn, am not getting the new mission that just came out with the clown an barrels in it, have asked zygna to help since june 1st an have not gotten any help, told them i just want it fixed not free food or horseshoes or anything else just want to play with everyone else. not happy i even got rid of the pen an rebuilt it thinking maybe i could start the mission over, nope didnt, so now what, any help would be appreciated tyvm
The problem with posting only came about when Internet Explorer 9 came out. Either uninstall in and install an earlier version or use Firefox. I use Firefox and do not have any issues.
